So Darn Sore

Ouch!  On Monday I started a new, overly intense, workout routine and I'm not loving life today (or yesterday for that matter).  I am so darn sore!  I am also eating my words.  A friend who had started this routine about a week before I did was complaining how sore she was.  I immediately jumped in and said, "I kinda like being sore.  It shows me I'm working hard.  It's a good kind of hurt."  Ha ha ha.  Joke's on me.  I do not like being so sore.
So here's my question... Am I doing the right thing? Is it healthy to be living in a constant state of severe pain?  Because I have a feeling this is going to be the new me.  At least for a very, very, very long time.  Ouch!

p.s.  Is anyone as frustrated as I am that the spell check no longer seams to be part of Blogger?  I have been successfully been hiding the fact that I'm not the world's best speller.  Now my secret is out.  Everyone knows!  :(

I win!

For the past couple of months Khursten & I have been having a battle of the wills over her hair. She has gorgeous hair. I really do love it long. The only problem is she's eight. Eight-year-olds are more interested in just getting out the door rather than making sure they spend the proper time to make themselves look nice. And every time I try to intervene, all I get is crying and whining over my attempts to pick out the big rats nest and snarls that have accumulated from a good night's sleep.

I have been trying my darndest to convince her that she would love, love, love having short hair. She just gasps at me completely appalled that I would ever dare to suggest such a thing. On Sunday I was fed up and told her that on Monday we were heading off and cutting off that hair. There were tears, complaints, and arguments. It didn't help matters that most of that was from Ryan since he was completely siding with Khursten. I was fully prepared to back off and just let her get a trim instead.

When Khursten came through the door after school she said she was ready to go get a cut. She was excited to go short. I was completely surprised. I even gave her the option at least three times to just trim it up instead. But for some reason she had changed her mind, and was completely on board. I don't know who finally helped sway her. All I know is that I win! Ha! (Is that a terrible thing for a mother to say?)

So in the end we went from this:

Sew Saucy

It occured to me that recently every other post I have done is a post about something I have sewn.  Super obnoxious!  I decided to make a separate sewing blog (Sew Saucy) so that anyone interested can visit it, but those who aren't don't have to.  The idea spread, and I already have two other authors on my new sewing blog!  So check it out if you're interested.  http://www.sewsaucy.blogspot.com/.

Nicole's 7th Birthday

Nicole's 7th birthday was this Monday.  She was lucky enough to have the day off from school due to it being a teacher prep day.  We invited over a few friends for a 'butterfly' birthday party.  It was a lot of fun.  I headed to the craft store to get every butterfly themed thing I could find.  Here are a few of the highlights.

A Conversation Today

Audrey came upstairs this morning and gave me a hug.  Her hair was sopping wet.  I went to yell to her sisters to find out who had dumped water on her head when I noticed that her hair wasn't moving.  It was glued in place.  It wasn't wet at all.

Me:  Audrey, what's in your hair?
Audrey:  Butter
Me:  Why is there butter in your hair?
Audrey:  I stuck my head in the butter dish and licked it.
Me:  Audrey it's not a good thing if you lick the butter dish.  Now I'm going to have to wash it.
Khursten:  No, Mom.  It wasn't the dish she licked.  It was a brand new stick of butter.  I just got it out and she ate about half of it.

Man!  I thought we were finally past this.

Officially 30

Yesterday it was finally official!  I'm now 30 years old!  Thanks to all of you who helped me celebrate a wonderful day.
I was able to go to my all-time favorite restaurant (The Red Iguana) with some super great friends.

It just happened to be located next to the world's classiest motel.  So classy, in fact, that I couldn't resist getting our picture in front of it.

Anyone up for a stay in the Honeymoon Suite?  This definitely be my first choice for the ultimate romantic get-away!

Thanks for the night of good food, great friends, and good hearty laughs!

Conditional Love

The sad truth is that the love for my dog is often quite conditional.  I know it's entirely unfair, but it's the way it is.  When she's clean and smells so lovely, I love her to sit by me.  I love to pet her and have her around.  When she's dirty and smells like a dog.... not so much.  I find myself shewing her away, sending her outside...
It's not fair.  I completely acknowledge this.   I am the one who bathes her.  It's my fault when she's stinky.  It's my fault when her gleaming white coat looks a little gray.
I tried to solve this problem at one point by giving her a shave-down.  Not a success.
Yesterday I finally broke down and paid the big bucks for a professional do.  We were lucky enough to find Bruce, the overly enthusiastic dog groomer, who was willing to experiment on our dear George.  I am so estatic with the results.  She's white and shiny and smells oh-so-good!
