Oh The Sneakiness of a Mom

Today while the girls were away at school I decided to pull a fast one. I went in and did a WHAMMY on their rooms. When I was a kid I hated WHAMMY Day. I don't know where the term came from, but WHAMMY Day involved mom or dad (usually dad) dumping out all of our hidden treasures from our drawers, raking out under our beds and closets, and a trash bag that we were challenged to fill to the brim.
Lately I noticed that it was taking longer and longer for the girls to make their rooms have the appearance of cleanliness. I say appearance of cleanliness, because they're not actually fooling me when they stash their trash in every nook and cranny. But hey, it does look clean. But from the looks of things lately, all their hiding places must have been full.
So today I snuck in and did a WHAMMY.
Here's what the girls saw when they got home:
And here's what I heard, "Thanks mom! You're so nice. My room was such a mess. I didn't think I'd ever get it clean. You're the greatest mom ever!"
I took their kudos and accolades. I smiled and said you're welcome. I even used their appreciation to my advantage, "Girls, since I was such a nice mom today and cleaned your rooms for you would you mind helping me straighten up the living room & the kitchen?"

But little do they know... about 10 minutes before the bus dropped them off this afternoon, I smuggled this little gem out the door. I'm hoping they remain in a state of delirious happiness about their clean rooms that they fail to notice all of their missing treasures. What could they possibly have that would fill an entire trash bag? you ask.
Here are just a few of my favorite finds (almost all were in Nicole's room):
27 buttons (I'm really hoping these were found and picked up rather than being picked off of her clothes)
7 safety pins
16 rocks of various size (not including the rock salt that Nicole found and thought were beautiful crystals)
beads, beads, and more beads (thanks mom)
More broken McDonalds' toys than I can even count.
My old eye shadow (I assume this was found in a trash can and then recovered by Nicole)
Every single paper they've ever done at school
And my very favorite...
24 paper doors torn off of a paper advent calendar that Aunt Kristy gave them for Christmas.
Whew! Now I can sit back and relax for a few more months.

Good for you! That must have taken all day long!

OK, the things you mentioned would only have filled a grocery size plastic bag....What else was in there, huh?????

The rooms certainly looked nice. I've been known to do a Whammy in my day. I just didn't know it was called that. We had Mr. Gunnybag come visit. Only problem was, that I couldn't throw anything away. I just relocated the items somewhere else in the house, so that when I die, my kids can retrieve them.

I planned on doing the same thing to Katelyns room, but she ended up helping me do it instead. Their rooms look great, good work.

Oh man my whole house needs a whammy day! Any volunteers? This is an excellent idea and I think my girls will soon be whammied!

I love whammy day! It makes me feel so fresh and organized when I'm done. Of course, no whammy cam be done when Kaden is around. He LOVES every tiny piece of paper he has collected and goes into hysterics when I suggest we throw them away. But.... if I do it while he is at school, he never knows. So lovely.
These rooms are a thing of beauty!

I love cleaning out the girls room, I have to take bags of toys out to the shed all the time and then later go through it and send the rest to DI. They don't like it because they know if their room is clean then mom has gone in and taken their stuff but yet they haven't figured out if they kept it clean I wouldn't have to take their stuff.

I actually did a Whammy day on my own room yesterday. My goal is to go through one room a day until my house is spotless. Maybe you can help since you're so experienced now. It looks like you got their rooms spic and span. I wish my kids rooms looked like that.
